World Interfaith Harmony Week 2013

This week World Interfaith Harmony Week was celebrated. It is an annual event to be observed during the first week of February starting in 2011.

World Interfaith Harmony Week was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in resolution A/RES/65/5 adopted on 20 October 2010. In the resolution, the General Assembly, points out that mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace and establishes World Interfaith Harmony Week as a way to promote harmony between all people regardless of their faith.

In Copenhagen Universal Peace Federation invited representatives of various religions to talk about Inter-faith coexistence and its value to peace on Saturday 2nd February.

The Jewish Muslim Network, which as Soteria International is a member of ENAR-Denmark arranged an outside peace and harmony event in the middle of Nørrebro, the Copenhagen borough with the most inter-ethnic and inter-cultural identity in Denmark. Hundreds of people came by to have a chat and share a vegetarian Hot Harmony Soup.

The same day The World Cultural Centre had a whole day’s activities on the theme of the Corinthian letter: faith, hope and love. The Integration Mayor of Copenhagen Municipality, Ms. Anna Mee Allerslev and the Danish Minister of Church Mr. Manu Sareen spoke and emphasized the role of interfaith harmony as pivotal to a culture of peace and human development. The evening continued with a performance by children interpreting musical expressions of different religious and spiritual practice, staging the message that in the spiritual heart we all unite in the innocent faith and inner connection.
